DULCE MARIA RIVAS was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Her initiation into the arts, especially in painting, began in childhood. From early on, Rivas received formal musical education, and at the same time developed her skills in drawing and painting. Influenced by her participation in several experimental workshops with different artists, she has developed a personal style and technique using oil, acrylics, beeswax, and metallic enamels.
In Rivas’ varied body of work, many influences can be seen. The contribution of personal experience based in the senses, as well as in the intellect, is perceptible throughout. The effect of her acedemic education in physics and mathematics is prominent in her abstracts. Her predilection for Tauromaquia, the art of bullfighting, has influenced many of her paintings. In addition, her work includes numerous portraits of people from all walks of life, including political figures.
She was recently selected as a finalist in the “Bienial Nacional de Pintura Miradas 2004,” a juried show exhibited at the Baja California Cultural Center in Tijuana. Rivas leads an Experimental Workshop in Aguascalientes. She divides her time between Mexico and San Diego.

DULCE MARIA RIVAS GODOY nació en Aguas-calientes, México, el 15 de junio de1955. Su inclinación hacia las artes y las ciencias, se manifestó desde muy temprana edad. Recibió una educación formal en música, y paralelamente fue desarrollando su habilidad en el dibujo y la pintura.
Su educación académica, enfocada a las ciencias físico-matemáticas, le ha permitido aportar en su obra plástica, su experiencia basada tanto en los sentidos como en el intelecto, impregnando sus propuestas de diferentes indagaciones plásticas y utilizando la seducción visual como medio y fin de su arte. Mas allá de su carácter pictórico las obras parecen interrogar la percepción y la mirada; la virtual amalgama de lo material con la polaridad inmaterial o mental: el espacio. Convocar presencias desde el vacío.
Parte de su obra se refiere a la "tauromaquia". Ha retratado también a numerosas personalidades tanto de la sociedad, como de la política. Ha obtenido Menciones Honoríficas en la Bienal del Museo Olga Costa-Chávez Morado de la ciudad de Guanajuato; en el Certamen del Día de los Muertos en el Instituto Potosino de Bellas Artes, San Luis Potosí; y en el Concurso de Pintura Taurina Troesma 2, en Madrid, España. Fue seleccionada en la "1ª. Bienal Nacional de Pintura MIRADAS 2004". Forma parte del grupo de Artistas Gráficos de Aguascalientes.
